Medical Chinese/English Summer Camp
Taipei Medical University, in order to encourage middle school, high school and college students to participate in summer learning activities, has organized special medical camps taught by talented instructors enabling students to experience the value of life and health, and stimulate interest in the medical field. Led by an excellent team of college students, student campers will be able to experience the warm campus life.  Middle, high school & college student campers will perform community service (50 ~ 100 hours) teaching English to students of the Humanity Primary and Junior High School & Antigua Kindergarten of Ilan County.

Medical Chinese/English Summer Camp
Taipei Medical University, in order to encourage 3rd-6th grade students to participate in summer learning activities, has organized special medical camps taught by outstanding teachers, supplemented with exciting recreational activities and visitations to enable children to experience the value of life and health, awareness of a balanced diet and learn simple first aid methods.A 4day/3night Taiwan island tour will help students understand the customs & people of Taiwan.

Chinese Art Summer Camp
Tainan Kuang Hua Girls Senior High School in order to encourage kindergarten through 16th grade students to participate in art and music curriculum with: arts crafts, science , games, music, dance, computer, hand dyeing, group fitness courses, experimental learning activities, has organized a special Chinese summer camp:  Chinese knotting, teaching Taiko drum, printmaking, paper clay, Confucius Temple, Chihkan Tower, Zheng Chenggong Temple, Fort Zeelandia... National Tainan University & National Cheng Kung University visits. Specialists in music, dance, computer, arts crafts, science, traditional toys/games, physical fitness will lead creative classes. In addition to classroom instruction on Chinese, the American high/middle school and college students will perform community service (50 hours) teaching English to students of Tainan Municipal Shengli Elementary School, Tainan National University Experimental Elementary School / Kindergarten, Humanity Primary and Junior High School & Antigua Kindergarten of Ilan County. There will be outside activities such as visits to night markets to enjoy Tainan snacks, visits to monuments and the natural ecological landscape and others.

Admission:
Medical Chinese/English Summer Camp
  1. Registration:  3rd ~ 16th grade students (ages 9 ~ 30) (a participant under 12 must be accompanied by an adult)
  2. Application accepted at a first come first serve basis, as space permits. Acceptance into the Taipei Medical University Medical Camp will be announced on our website http://Taiwan-USYLCEcamp.org in May 2010. Please register early to reserve a seat in these camps.

Chinese Art Summer Camp
  1. Registration:  K ~ 16th grade students (a participant under 12 must be accompanied by an adult)
Registration Period: Now ~ May 29, 2010 (by postmark, as space permits) Please contact us regarding late registration..
Camp Fees:
  1. Medical / Art Chinese and English Summer Camp (minor adjustments to camp fees shall be paid prior to start of camp, refund shall be refunded before the end of camp)
    1. Includes room & board, activities fees, teaching material fee, camp T-shirt. During non-camp hours, camp members are responsible for their own meals. Prior arrangement can be made for Taipei Medical University transportation.
      (Refund note:  70% of the camp fee will be refunded before May 29, 2010; the $200 registration fee is not refundable. Between May 30, 2010 to June 14, 2010, 50% of the camp fee will be refunded; the $200 registration fee is not refundable. No withdrawal refund request will be accepted from June 15, 2010 to the start of camp.)
    2. Camp members should be prepared (with New Taiwan Dollar, or $200~$300 U.S. dollars) to pay guide fees, tips and night markets, shopping and free-time meals. We can assist you with currency exchange at the banks.
    3. Each Medical Camp member shall prepare 4 small gifts for gift exchange with Taiwanese students.
       
  2. Summer Camp accommodations:
    1. Medical Camps:  Taipei Medical University 4 person air-conditioned dormitory suite (sleeping bag provided; please bring your own toiletries.)
    2. Art Camp: Tainan Kuang Hua Girls Senior High School dormitory (Aug 1 ~ 12)
      1. The school will only supply sleeping bags; please bring your own pillows & sheets.
      2. Laundry detergent is provided. However, do bring your own if you have special needs.
      3. Night time activities involve walking but are optional. Camper may remain in the dorm for free activity. Bus transportation is arranged for An-ping & wet land preserve excursions.
      4. The school will arrange 3 dormitories for women (8 people per dorm:  7 female campers with 1 female adviser.)  A separate wooden shack will house the male campers.
      5. Kuang Hua Girls Senior High School will arrange a separate dormitory cabin for the male campers.
      6. Campers wishing to avoid mosquito bites may purchase mosquito repellents from the school.
      7. Please bring your own water bottle, hats & sunblock.
     
  3. Family fun period:  Parents are welcome to accompany campers. Camp fees and room & board are deducted for accompanying parents. Please contact us for details.

  5. Completion ceremony will be held at the Los Angeles Chinese Culture Center before October to award camp completion certificates.
  6. Parents are welcome to accompanying campers on the tours. For accompanying parents willing to serve as advisers or teaching assistants, a portion of the fees will be reduced. Please contact us.
Completion Ceremony: Awards:
  1. At the conclusion of the Medical Camp activities, Taiwan's Taipei Medical University will award each camper a "Taipei Medical University Summer Medical Camp" Certificate of Completion.
  2. Palos Verdes Chinese School will award each participant a "2010 Summer International Youth Leadership Chinese / English Camp" Certificate of Completion for participation in the Chinese language & cultural activities during the camp program in Taiwan. Six senior high school camp members exhibiting leadership qualities who were selected to serve as Student Group Leaders and to assist with the newsletters for the camps will receive Leadership Certificates.
  3. High school & middle school campers who served as overseas English teaching interns are awarded Community Service Certificates.

  4. Outstanding college students who served as Teacher Assistants are awarded Leadership Certificates and Community Service Certificates of 50 ~ 80 hours.
  5. Advisers are awarded Certificates of Appreciation.
Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission subsidy: This year the Taiwan Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission will subsidize 70 student. The first 70 participants who register for the Medical / Art Summer Camp before May 29, 2010 will be given priority to receive the subsidy. Each Chinese camper originating form North/Central/South America, Asia, Europe, Africa or Oceania will receive $10,000NTD (~$300US.) The OCAC will also subsidize non-Chinese participants $5,000NTD (~$150US) each. Each camp participant is only permit to receive one subsidy. Parents accompanying students shall pay registration & appropriate camp fees. Round-trip airfare is the participant's responsibility. Please note that the Taiwan Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission will not subsidize students with Taiwan passports nor parents.

If we do receive subsidy funds from the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission, each student with passport from North/Central/South America, Asia, Europe, Africa or Oceania will receive a $300US refund within one month of returning from camp. In order for us to apply for your subsidy, please make copies of the following three items & send them before August 28, 2010 to:

  1. Passport page with holder's name, photo and passport number,

Seeking Adult Advisers & Graduate Student TAs
Target: Parent teachers and college graduate students (20 year old & up) 
Location: Taipei Medical University

Expenses: Round trip airfare to Taiwan is the participants responsibility.
All room & board will be paid by the sponsoring organization. (Not including the night market expenses, tour guide fee, driver tips,  meals & tips during free time, and airfare.)
Completion Ceremony: Graduate student teaching assistants will be awarded Community Service Certificates and Certificates of Appreciation.
Advisers will be awarded Certificates of Appreciation.

Payment:
  1. The registration fee is US $ 200 (non-refundable). The registration fee covers:  advertising & press conference related fees during the promotional period, postage, telephone, mail, adviser / teaching assistant / teacher / student uniforms, certificates, partial cost of the room & board expenses for advisers / teaching assistants / team leader in Taiwan, public announcements, website, administrative miscellaneous fees, administrative fees for contacting partner organizations.
  2. Taiwan Activity costs include:
    1. Visitation activities, teachers, class material, activities, lodging, meals, transportation, airport shuttle, day / night with travel, attractions tickets, insurance, transportation between schools, meals arranged by schools.
    2. Camp fees include insurance for free time periods (Nan Shan Life Insurance Company of Taiwan $2 million NTD accident coverage, $200,000NTD medical coverage (does not cover illness, individual pays for treatment)).
    3. Touchen Farm fee includes accident insurance amount of NTD 2 million (no coverage outside of  the Farm.)
  3. All fees do not cover airfare and Taiwan tour guide / driver expenses / restaurant tips, free activity meals, and night market snacks.  These expenses are the participant's responsibility.
  4. During non-Medical Summer Camp hours, camp members are responsible for their own meals. Prior arrangement can be made for Taipei Medical University transportation.
